After successfully managing two afforestation projects in Panama, ForestFinance has now started a third project in South America: "ArBoliva". The project, which exists since 2007, is an initiative of Bolivian smallholder farmer benefiting the local population, biodiversity and climate.
The goal of the initiative is to reforest degraded parts of the pasture land that belong to the farmers. A mix of native tree species suitable for the location will be planted. This way, the smallholder farmers benefit from the upgrading of their fallow land whilst sustainable and ecological forestry becomes possible.
The income from carbon credits is shared with the smallholder farmers. This gives long-term economic incentives to the farmers to participate in the initiative whereas experienced forestry engineers are ensuring a sustainable forest management. Due to its numerous social and ecological benefits and the carbon fixation, the climate protection has already been successfully validated with the PlanVivo Standard.
