Why and how we commit ourselves

Engagement

The Fund for Replacement and Compensatory Measures (FEAM) GmbH was founded in 2008 in Schneverdingen, Lower Saxony. Under the influence of the UN Agenda 21 of Rio in 1992, commitments developed that aim at both economic necessity and ecological compensation.  In this context, the company's founder Hans-Hermann Steiger, a graduate engineer in forestry, was also a founding member of the non-profit association "Klimaschutzdurch Wald e.V." and "Trinkwasserwald e.V.". Inspired by increasing environmental issues, the need to enable companies, municipalities and other stakeholders to achieve professional ecological compensation within the framework of the intervention regulation in infrastructure measures was recognized.

FEAM GmbH operates an intensive nature and species conservation management on various project areas in Germany, which are assigned to companies as compensation and compensation for infrastructure measures in the open landscape. On these areas, nature is given back the greatest possible space to ensure important values such as species protection, biodiversity, closeness to nature and climate resilience. A long-term professional orientation and monitoring ensures ecological quality standards for the good development of the project areas. A special feature of the portfolio is the development of a primeval forest project in one of the largest compensation area pools held by a private company. Here, peace was created by omitting to take a measure, i.e. a waiver of use. Development areas for species such as eagle owls, otters or kingfishers have been able to develop. Nature can seem undisturbed.

Our company has two central business areas.

FEAM GmbH sees itself primarily as a service provider in the field of development and mediation of compensation projects to provide necessary ecological compensation in accordance with the intervention regulation in nature conservation and forest law when natural space is used.

Since 2024, we have been offering companies and organizations to compensate for their water needs by creating groundwater forests. We call this "Certified Water Balancing". Unique in this form, we enable companies, especially in the DACH region, to actively increase available groundwater resources so that the water demand for production can be balanced. The close technical coordination is carried out with the HAWK Resource Management University in Göttingen.

In this context, we are pleased to be part of a responsible community as a member of BiGCthat wants to learn from each other and use potential for action.
