Campingplatz Königsbruch

Why and how we commit ourselves

Campingplatz Königsbruch GmbH operates the leisure centre of the same name in eastern Saarland. The campsite is surrounded by nature, nestled in the woods and meadows of the Königsbruch, the Saarland extension of the Westpfälzer Moorniederung.

The family business, founded by Rudi Enkler at the end of the 1950s, began as an open-cast mine for sand extraction. Just a few years after the end of mining, he recognised the value of the site in view of the desire of many holidaymakers for a holiday on their doorstep. He therefore remodelled the site and developed it into a campsite. In 2015, his grandson, Steven Enkler, took over the business.

With up to 1,200 visitors a day during the holiday season, the campsite is a popular excursion destination and, with three bathing lakes and numerous adjacent hiking and cycling trails, offers many opportunities for nature-based leisure activities and relaxation.

Since 2017, the campsite management has been working on a sustainable and future-proof development plan for the entire site. With the resolution at the beginning of 2024 and thus more than 7 years of planning, the way has now been paved for the realisation of the new project.

In view of its location on the edge of an FFH, bird sanctuary and nature reserve, a particular focus of the concept is on the near-natural redesign. The aim is to offer visitors a unique nature experience in the region and at the same time to promote the diversity of flora and fauna through active biotope and species protection. The company sees its responsibility as working sustainably, conserving resources and in harmony with nature and the environment.

Dr Christoph Bernd, a specialist field biologist, has been recruited to oversee the project in terms of biodiversity management and to plan and implement measures for the ecological optimisation and redesign of partial habitats as well as species protection measures.

In particular, the protection and preservation of biodiversity and the further development of our internal biodiversity strategy has become a priority for us as a company.

We see our mission supported by networking with like-minded people and companies with the same or similar approaches. Joining Biodiversity in Good Company was therefore a logical step for us.

Our motto: Living in nature while respecting nature.
