einhorn (which means "unicorn") wants to use the business power to solve the world’s pressing challenges and to create a positive social and environmental hoof print throughout our condom’s value chain. That is our vision and why we founded einhorn.
Within the first year, we analysed the impact a condom and its production is having on humans and the environment. We see the most important sustainability topic at the beginning of our value chain: on the rubber plantations in Malaysia. We started our first projects here. Rubber grows in so-called biodiversity hotspots - mostly in monoculture. Although being one of the most important agricultural products worldwide, rubber did not receive much attention regarding sustainability aspects, especially compared to other commodities.
In the following years, we want to establish a case example for sustainable rubber cultivation in cooperation with University of Hohenheim. We are working together with the stakeholders and our partners in the value chain to protect the biodiversity on our partner plantation and to rebuild important eco-system services. We know that realizing our ambition will take years. That is why we want to inform transparently about the current status but also the challenges we are facing on our webpage and though our social media channels. We also want to connect our customers with our value chain to show that purchase decisions here do have an impact in other parts of the world.
Protecting the biodiversity plays an important role in our approach. That is why we became a member of 'Biodiversity in Good Company'. With the initiative we want to support the protection of the biodiversity and are looking forward to sharing our experiences with other companies and learning from each other within the initiative.
