HiPP wins „European Business Award for the Environment“ (EBAE) in the category „Business & Biodiversity“

HiPP has won the 2016-2017 „European Business Award for the Environment“ (EBAE) in the category „Business & Biodiversity“. The jury considered the baby food manufacturer's comprehensive approach to address the protection and sustainable use of biological diversity as outstanding.

The business & biodiversity award is given to a company for a successful business model, management scheme, product and service or international cooperation, which makes a significant contribution to halting biodiversity loss and supporting natural ecosystems. The jury said: "HiPP is a high quality baby food manufacturer whose products are made from organic raw materials in harmony with nature. HiPP is a founder member of the international initiative ‘Biodiversity in Good Company’, whose objectives include conserving biological diversity, the sustainable use of components, and a fair and equitable sharing of the benefits arising from the utilisation of genetic resources. HiPP’s sustainability management has incorporated biodiversity into the company’s operations as a dedicated department that considers the entire supply chain, thus implementing systematic sustainability management at every level and anchoring the statement: ‘Being a HiPP staff member means being a sustainability staff member’."

The European Business Awards for the Environment (EBAE) recognise environmental pioneers, celebrating those companies at the forefront of eco-innovation, or which have a respect for the environment at the very core of their business principles. The awards are held every second year, and winners are recognised in the following four categories: management, product and services, process innovation, and international business cooperation, with a special mention for business and biodiversity. The 2016-17 awards ceremony took place at the historic Seaplane Harbour in Tallinn, Estonia on the 27th October 2016. The competition saw 148 entries from 21 EU Member States and candidate countries and 23 shortlisted companies.

Companies that wish to apply for the EBAE must have already succeeded at a national level – only winners and runners-up in the national competitions and specially commended companies may apply to the EBAE. HiPP was one of the winners of the German EMAS Awards in March 2016.
