European Commission publishes guidance on working with nature

The European Commission published two guidance documents on 'Working with nature to resolve urgent societal challenges'. The new tools are intended to help planners, policymakers and businesses solve socio-economic challenges, while also protecting and restoring Europe's nature.

The EU Guidance document on ecosystems and their services in decision-making includes three parts and highlights the wide range of benefits that flow from nature, and possible ways to take better account of these benefits in policy, planning and business investment decisions. Chapter 6 in part 2 focusses on Natural capital and business. It gives a quick overview of reasons why to include Natural capital into business decisions, the legal and policy context, existing communities and resources as well as information on tools how to integrate ecosystems and their services into decision making. It briefly introduces existing tools and methodologies as well as remaining challenges.
