Business and Biodiversity: Milchwerke Berchtesgadener Land Chiemgau

Milchwerke Berchtesgadener Land Chiemgau

Why and how we are committed to biodiversity

Milchwerke Berchtesgadener Land Chiemgau is a cooperative of 1.700 organic and conventional milk producers based in the Southern Alpine region operating at national level.

The cooperative has a project “Verbot von Totalherbiziden auf Acker- und Grünlandflächen“ (“Ban of total herbicides on cropland and grassland”), which was launched in October 2017 and is still running.

With its project "ban of total herbicides on cropland and grassland" the Milchwerke Berchtesgadener Land Chiemgau won the national competition on biodiversity in supply chains for the private sector “Die Lieferkette lebt. Lieferketten gestalten, biologische Vielfalt erhalten” – “The supply chain is alive. Shaping supply chains and saving biological diversity”. The award was launched by the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety, NABU (Nature and Biodiversity Conservation Union) and the 'Biodiversity in Good Company' Initiative. Part of the award is a one-year membership in our initiative.
