Business and Biodiversity: Volkswagen

Volkswagen

Volkswagen is a founding member of the 'Biodiversity in Good Company’ Initiative and contributed to its activities from the very beginning. Against the deception scandal, the board of the 'Biodiversity in Good Company’ Initiative has published a declaration. In a personal letter (in German) of 27 October 2015 Matthias Müller, then Chairman of the Board of Management of Volkswagen, responded and asked for a dormant membership. From October 2015 until December 2018 Volkswagen was inactive in our network and did not exercise its voting right, but continued to support the association through its membership fee.

Together with Volkswagen the board of the initiative decided to reactivate the active membership by 1 January 2019. Since the beginning of the deception scandal Volkswagen has started a transformation process of its corporate culture and a clarification of the matters. The board of the initiative and Volkswagen agree that there is still a lot to be done and trust must be restored. For Volkswagen biodiversity is important. To achieve common goals and to further mainstream biodiversity as well as to exchange experience and learn from each other partnerships are important. After more than three years of dormant membership the board of the ‘Biodiversity in Good Company’ Initiative decided to have trust in Volkswagens commitment to biodiversity and include Volkswagen in the activities of the initiative again.
