Business and Biodiversity: Neumarkter Lammsbräu

Neumarkter Lammsbräu

Commitment

For a long time Neumarkter Lammsbräu has meant breaking new paths and following fundamental natural principles. As an eco-pioneer right from the start, it was a matter of short-term success never for us of the company, but rather the need and self-imposed commitment to produce the best possible product in a naturally sustainable manner. To do this, we enshrined ten principles in the company policy early on. They range from our company's understanding of itself to understand as part of the ecological and social systems, through strict ecological brewing guidelines - the ecological purity of Lammsbräu - to endeavouring to make the relationship with our suppliers, employees and customers face-to-face at all times. The use of modern management systems, oriented to the ISO standards 14001 and 9001 and the EMAS regulation has helped us to put all this into day-to-day practice. And our success is proven, for example by the annual reviews of the EFQM, the Lammsbräu sustainability report and awards such as the EMAS Award 2012 and 2019.

The promotion of local organic farming is central for Neumarkter Lammsbräu, not least by our producer group EZÖB which now includes more than 160 farmers. Together with our farmers we have been actively campaigning for more than 25 years in the local region against the use of agro-genetic engineering and of pesticides and for the preservation of the natural diversity around us.

But also nationally, we have always felt ourselves obliged to adopt a position. For example, we actively share our experience with other companies not least in the framework of the initiative for 'Biodiversity in Good Company', combine forces with them and thus contribute together to environmental and species conservation in our country.

Benefit

As a family company with a century-long tradition and an organic pioneer, the protection of our environment is very important for Neumarkter Lammsbräu. Including our 100% organic range. Highest craftsmanship meets the whole variety of domestic brewing raw materials in our products: whole aroma hop umbels, various cereals from strictly controlled organic farming and malt produced in the company's own malt house not only guarantee the distinctive flavour, but also entail the right and the obligation for us to preserve these traditional raw materials in their full richness for the future.

This can only succeed if we perceive these plants as part of an integrated ecosystem. So we have been campaigning for years on several levels actively against pervasive monocultures and for the preservation and restoration of biodiversity in our fields: we support seed projects in organic farming, which promote the protection and development of seeds suitable for organic farming. Through our producer community EZÖB we encourage long-term projects such as cultivated land plans and a wild herbs project, which also make a directly visible contribution to the diversity of the fields. In addition we are committed to education and research. Projects such as our staff project on orchards, our trainee project of the biodiversity pavilion, the creation of insect hotels and the holding of public nature walks or participation in the research project "Companies promote diversity" contribute to raising awareness of biodiversity among people inside and outside our company and creating the basis for a shared commitment in terms of diversity.
