A Colourful Bouquet for Biodiversity

Volkswagen hands out garden plants for biological diversity in employees' backyards.

Volkswagen hands out garden plants for biological diversity in employees' backyards: Volkswagen site in Wolfsburg, change of shifts on Mai 22nd, 2015. The attention of employees pouring out of the factory halls is caught by an information booth surrounded by numerous small bushes. Brochures are handed out to interested passers-by - as well as the plants themselves.

What's the buzz? This year, Volkswagen celebrates the International Day for Biological Diversity by informing employees about their opportunities to promote biodiversity in their own gardens. The bushes were provided by the company's plant nursery and are meant to enhance biological diversity between the usual thuja and rhododendron. Volkswagen has built up expertise on biodiversity - for example in gardens - in cooperation with the German Nature and Biodiversity Conservation Union (NABU). And Volkswagen employees on May 22nd can share their gardening and biodiversity experiences via intranet.

The conservation of biological diversity has been declared a goal of Volkswagen since 2007. Projects like the above are intended to raise awareness for biodiversity issues with employees - and maybe even arrive in their backyards.
