Economic Value of Ecosystems

Here are two pieces of news from across the web, both relating to the economic value of ecosystems.

First, the European Investment Bank has announced that it will be providing two new research sponsorships - one of which will be for universities conducting research into the financial and economic value of ecosystems and the services they provide.  This is notoriously hard to measure and to will be interesting to see the research that the sponsorship produces.

And secondly, the International Fund for Animal Welfare has released a undefinedreport detailing the size and extent of whale watching industry.  By placing an economic value on the whale watching industry, the report advocates the future conservation of whales.
