Tchibo joins 'Biodiversity in Good Company' Initiative
Berlin/Hamburg, 11 Dec 2012 - The 'Biodiversity in Good Company‘ Initiative welcomes Tchibo as a new member. Today the company signed the initiative's Leadership Declaration. For Tchibo, safeguarding biodiversity and protecting nature is a key factor for business success: Ecosystems with their respective biodiversity have great implications for sourcing high-quality products like coffee, cotton, and wood. Project Launch: Cost Management in Nature Conservation and Cost Saving Possibilities
In November 2012, the Institute for Ecological Economy Research (IÖW) together with the ‘Biodiversity in Good Company’ Initiative, the Lake Constance Foundation, the Global Nature Fund and the University of Applied Sciences Osnabrück launched a project on corporate nature conservation costs.

UN Biodiversity Conference in Hyderabad: Financial assistance for environmental protection doubled
The 11th meeting of the Conference of the Parties (CoP 11) to the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) was held in Hyderabad, India from 8 to 19 October 2012. The 'Biodiversity in Good Company' Initiative participated with different activities. For a brief report click

Strong signal from business: 'Biodiversity in Good Company' Initiative realigned
The Initiative has been transformed into a business-run and company-driven independent association. Thus, the former successful project established by the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety and the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) in 2008 ensures its long-term future prospects.
The German Federal Environment Minister, Dr. Norbert Röttgen, welcomed the companies' commitment: "Nature is our foundation of life. Protecting nature is the joint task of government and society. The German business community has made a vital contribution to this by founding the international network 'Biodiversity in Good Company'. In this way, German companies are supporting the federal government in implementing the National Biodiversity Strategy and in reaching internationally agreed targets."

International companies are endorsing the Business and Biodiversity Initiative 'Biodiversity in Good Company'. Meanwhile, more than 40 companies have signed the Leadership Declaration that envisages the integration of biodiversity into entrepreneurial action and management systems.
