C 7–4 Tips Checklist waste and by-products from the production and manufacturing processes

Introduction
Use the following suggestion tips as biodiversity-preserving tools:
C 7–4–1 Handling Waste
Regularly check the amounts of waste produced as well as its composition.

Applicable / Feasible?

Check for possibilities to reduce waste produced (consider starting this process already in the product and material planning process - see also detailed checklist C 5).

Applicable / Feasible?

Avoid waste by using closed cycle production processes and through optimizing processes. To accommodate this, accept used and/or recyclable products back.

Applicable / Feasible?

If there is no internal corporate use for certain waste products or by-products, consider the possibility of selling such material to other companies. An example of this is recycling organic waste for use as fuel or in biogas plants.

Applicable / Feasible?

If there is no way to re-integrate the by-products an waste from the production process, ensure that the material is appropriately and environmentally fairly disposed of. Attempt to continuously reduce waste and / or replace the appropriate material (see also Detailed Checklist 5).

Applicable / Feasible?

If, in your production process, dangerous waste is created, check to see if the legal requirements for handling hazardous materials are met. Make sure you regularly keep up on the legal guidelines set up for disposing hazardous material.
