The Biodiversity in Good Company Initiative contributes in a variety of ways to the national and international understanding of biodiversity and business. It accomplishes this by engaging in political dialog and supporting hands on, concrete aspects of protecting biodiversity through business practices. Its work is oriented towards:
Biodiversity Management – In cooperation with the Leuphana University in Lüneburg, Germany at the request of German Federal Environment Ministry, the 'Biodiversity in Good Company' Initiative developed and published its
Corporate Biodiversity Management Handbook as a practical implementation guide. It offers a theoretical background,
checklists, and a number of
best practice examples for the precise implementation of corporate biodiversity protection. With the interactive and open-to-the public checklists, environmental managers are able to run a biodiversity protection check for their own company. Additionally, the Initiative enables member companies exclusive access when it comes to participating in and designing pilot projects in the field of biodiversity management. This allows enterprises to continually improve competencies in this field.
National and Global Networking – The ‘Biodiversity in Good Company’ Initiative, with its headquarters in the middle of Berlin, offers an excellent reputation, a first class network and direct dialogue with decision makers. In this way, the Initiative facilitates cooperation opportunities between the member companies, national, and international
partners from politics, academia, and civil society (e.g. ministries, CBD secretariat, authorities and nature conservation agencies).
Exchanging Experiences – The Initiative organises workshops several times a year and the member companies take turns hosting them. During these meetings, the member companies have the opportunity to present company operations and exchange information on management practices.
Public Relations Work – The Initiative is engaged in promoting the activities of its member companies as well as creating general awareness on the topic of business and biodiversity. For example, it is able to do this through national and international events or in its regularly produced
newsletters in German and English.
With the
touring exhibition, an effective, public project was created to explain the economic connection between sustainably using and protecting biological diversity and business activities.
B&B Info Portal – The
B&B information portal offers a well-structured and wide collection of documents and links to practical oriented
tools, important national and international stakeholders and general information around the topic of business and biodiversity.
